Hailing from Joliet IL, Matthew Busse’s musical journey began early in life. Initially exploring the piano without formal guidance, he delved into formal lessons at the age of six. Over the years, a passion for composition blossomed, leading him to study the works of classical masters. His academic pursuits in composition, conducting, and piano performance at Sam Houston State University further fueled his love for creating music that melds classical and contemporary influences.

Under the mentorship of Dr. Newton Strandberg, Busse’s serious compositions took shape, while Dr. John Paul honed his piano performance skills. Subsequent academic achievements include a Master’s degree in Music from the University of Houston and a doctorate in orchestral conducting from the University of South Carolina.

Transitioning from formal studies, Busse immersed himself in a long-conceived project: a recording of piano music that seamlessly blends classical depth with contemporary appeal. The result materialized as IMAGINE. Simultaneously, he discovered a new passion for conducting and became actively engaged in music education, nurturing the talents of young students. For Busse, imparting musical knowledge to the next generation is crucial to ensuring that music remains an integral part of our cultural heritage. During this time, he continued to compose more serious works for orchestra and small ensembles. His composition, Idyll for Solo Violin and Orchestra, had its recent premiere, performed by violinist Christina Kim with Busse conducting.

A true Renaissance man, Busse continues to compose and perform music spanning both classical and popular genres. Simultaneously composing, conducting orchestras, and championing music education, he emphasizes the profound impact of music, emphasizing that its true gift transcends the physical world, residing within the realms of the mind and the heart, eternally ingrained in the essence of the soul.

Juggling the roles of composer, orchestral conductor, and music educator and advocate, he accentuates the profound influence of music. Emphasizing that the true essence of music extends beyond the physical realm, its true gift resides within the realms of the mind and the heart, forever embedded in the essence of the soul.
