Bunny Beck

Jazz pianist and composer Bunny Beck comes from a long line of musicians. Her dad, Larry Sideman had a band that played hotels, her aunt was a vaudeville violinist, and her grandmother sang opera.

Trained from an early age as a classical pianist, Bunny studied with a range of teachers and is most grateful to have had the honor of being the only child student of the renowned concert pianist Selma Kramer. While attending New York’s High School of Music and Art (La Guardia), she was also giving piano lessons to adults and children. She has directed musical theater productions and has worked as an accompanist for singers.

Ultimately Bunny realized that jazz was her passion, so she sought out jazz mentors. She studied with the superb performer, composer and arranger Lee Evans, with the brilliant performer Fernando Hernandez, with Sonny Bravo and with jazz legend Harold Mabern. In 2002 she had the unique opportunity to study and play in Cuba with Reinaldo Gomez Ruiz and his band, Gens, and most recently studied and performed in jazz clubs in Rio de Janeiro.

Bunny can be heard solo or with other musicians playing restaurants, cocktail lounges, hotels, special events, private parties, weddings and corporate events. As a composer Bunny loves and treasures the exciting and fulfilling process of creating new music, and recording it with PARMA.

Birdland. The Village Vanguard. The Jazz Standard. Just a few of the New York clubs that have saturated the city's streets with the smooth sounds of jazz. Within this tradition, New York-native pianist and composer Bunny Beck presents seven cool and swinging original compositions as well as an arrangement of Hank Williams' "Your Cheatin' Heart" on her second release on Big Round Records, FROM THE SPIRIT. Featuring saxophonist Matt Blostein, guitarist Ed MacEachen, bassist Tom Hubbard, and drummer Vinnie Sperrazza, with Bunny Beck on piano, the Bunny Beck Jazz Ensemble highlights crisp and expressive improvisations while occasionally breaking into Latin rhythms. This album captures the relaxed and refined atmosphere emanating from those New York clubs.
